As a young man, Roy worked for the Galperin Music Company on 21 Capitol St where he meets and falls in love with the beautiful Mary Lou Asbury. They were married on Feb 2, 1951 at Calvary Baptist Church following a reception at her parent's home Wylie and Lura Asbury. He began his newspaper career working in the advertising department of The Charleston Daily Mail newspaper.
In 1958 with two children they moved to the Space Coast of FL to work for The Orlando Sentinel. Roy retired from the Gannett Corporation/Today Newspaper in Melbourne. Also, in the 1980's he and his wife owned The House of Fragrance on Fifth Ave, Indialantic Beach. He and Mary Lou later moved to the SW FL area to be close to their adult children and families.
He was very happy when golfing with his golf buddies in Melbourne. He enjoyed bowling, too, obtaining a perfect score. Roy always loved a good joke and rooted for the underdog. The Central FL Blood bank honored Roy for donating over 10 gallons of blood, and the Melbourne area Chamber of Commerce honored Roy in 1976 for obtaining the most new members during their fall membership drive. He loved reading, crossword puzzles, cars and collecting coins. He watched the FSU and UF games with his grandsons who graduated from the rival Universities. He was always a good neighbor to those around him.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary Lou of Alva, daughter Karen (Dr Steven Holberg) Wolfe Holberg of Alva, son Daniel A. Wolfe (faithful dog Jazz) of Miami, grandsons Brady Fletcher Vogt of Las Vegas, NV, Tyler Erin Vogt of Ft Myers, Michael (Ann) Holberg of TN, and Alyson (Bill) Case of Ft Myers, great grandchildren Katlyn and Wyatt Holberg of TN. He was preceded in death by his loving Mother Ethel Mae Edins Wolfe who passed when Roy was 5 and his grandmother Cynthia Edins.
The family wish to Thank the Kindred Hospital in Coral Gables for the ten weeks of exceptional care given to Roy while he was on a respirator after his fall. Also a Thank You to Dr Javedan, who operated on Roy plus the great Doctors, Nurses (ICU) and staff at Lee Memorial Trauma unit.

Roy was a wonderful person, always kind to me as I learned the business at Melbourne Times many years ago. I had not seen him for so long but as soon as I saw his name in the obituaries, I felt shocked and sad. Always a gentleman, always cheerful, always helpful. Please accept my deist sympathy and that of my mother, Jackie Reid, who also worked at the Times. June 11,2011

Mary Lou, Danny and Karen, I am so very sorry to hear about Roy. He was like a second father to me.I can still see him with his pipe and driving the white VW. He took me to my first Nascar race and my first sports car race. I am still to this day a big fan of racing due to this. He always treated me like I was one of his kids. With all of the crazy things that Danny and I did while growing up, I can't remember a single time where he raised his voice or getting upset. I have nothing but the fondest memory of Roy and wish I was there to pay my respect. I send my fondest regards and hope very one is doing well during this most difficult time. Bob Pooley June 26,2011
