Dr. Frank DiPlacido, Jr.
12/25/1934 - 3/14/2008
Dr. Frank DiPlacido, Jr., died suddenly on Friday, March 14, 2008. Frank was a loving father, grandfather, devoted husband, and loyal friend. He deeply touched the lives of the many people who crossed his path.
Frank was born on December 25, 1934 in Philadelphia and grew up in Eddystone, PA. He was one of 5 children of the late Frank, Sr. and Elizabeth (nee de Maria). Frank graduated from St Joseph's University in Philadelphia and received his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1962. After service in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965, he completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Shortly after, Frank moved to Fort Myers to join his friend Dr. Jerry Laboda in the practice of oral surgery.
Many knew Frank from his dedication to the Southwest Florida medical community, but his passion also reached far beyond Fort Myers. He was an active member of many associations in the dental and oral surgery field. Frank was President of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, and served as a councilor of the International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Frank was the Immediate Past President of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAAHC) and had been an active AAAHC surveyor for many years. He and Noreen also spent the last decade contributing to patient care beyond the United States, making many trips to Honduras and founding a maxillofacial project 'New Faces for Honduras', in conjunction with CURE International. After nearly 40 years, he officially retired from private practice in 2007.
This is only a short synopsis of the incredible life and career of Frank DiPlacido. He was truly a great humanitarian who never thought twice about putting the needs of others far ahead of his own, and lived his life to the fullest extent. We are truly saddened by this loss, but Frank will live on in all of us.He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Noreen, his children, Frank (Leslie), Damon (Laura) & Denise (Willie), grandchildren, Dariel, Catherine, Ava and Devin, sisters Loretta Woods (James), Theresa Jennings (Roy), Elizabeth Ferzetti (Frank), and brother Joseph DiPlacido (Eileen).
