Alfred B. Macary

Cape Coral, Florida – Alfred B. Macary, 79, formerly of Prospect Connecticut, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Health Park Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida.

He was born on October 1, 1929 in Merida Mexico to Mary Alice (Buterbih) and Rachid Boulos Macary. In 1939, his parents took him on a family vacation to their home country of Lebanon and due to World War II, they were unable to return to Mexico. Both of Alfred’s parents passed away in Lebanon the following year and he was raised by his grandmother until her passing in 1952, at which time he returned to Mexico. In 1958, he emigrated to the United States.

In 1962, he married Aldora Figueredo of Prospect, CT. Together, they owned and operated a convenience store for 23 years and a shoe store for 14 years, both located in Prospect at the Towne Plaza. Alfred was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, the Prospect Chamber of Commerce, and the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, an honorary deputy sheriff of New Haven County, a lifetime member of the NRA, a certified rifle and shotgun instructor, an accomplished marksman and an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer.

He retired with his wife 46 years, Aldora, to Cape Coral Florida in 1989 where they enjoyed many years together in their waterfront home. Alfred is survived by his wife, Aldora, his son Richard Macary of New York City, his daughter, Maureen Garceau and son in law Steve Garceau of Watertown Ct, and his four grandsons, Michael, Jason, Owen, and Joshua Garceau. Besides his many friends and family in Connecticut and Florida, Alfred leaves several nieces and nephews in Australia, Lebanon, Dubai and the French West Indies.
